Comars Comet Raised Saloon range received a stunning new flagship in the Comet 62 RS. Designed along the same principles as its smaller sister the Comet 52 RS, this aerodynamic 19-metre has a hull designed specifically with performance in mind. Bow sections have sharp entries while stern sections are imposing but with the transom high on the water so that the wetted surface is variable, optimising performance in all conditions. Almost vertical overhangs combined with a pronounced sheer line, give the new model’s form a modern yet elegant look. The wedge-shaped deckhouse, characterised by “eagle-eye” windows is confined to the section of deck aft of the mast, leaving the bow completely clean and the teak staves beautifully untouched. The flush hatches work very well too. The cockpit sees the sail control areas clustered around the two wheels while the benches have two separate tables, which can be used entirely for relaxation purposes. Aft, there is an impressively large sun pad covering the ample tender garage, which can house a rigid keel three meters dinghy. The swim platform opens out from the transom.
Comar offered a selection of highly customisable solutions for the interiors too. The standard version (as in WAYRA) includes a panoramic saloon devoted entirely to comfort and entertainment, as the exceptionally well-kitted out galley forward that is closed off (except for an opening panel / serving hatch to the saloon). The saloon on WAYRA has been modified since build with the starboard side reconfigured.
The large master suite, complete with head and separate shower stall, takes up the bow area while the two two-berth guest cabins and their heads (with shower stalls) are aft. There is a crew cabin with head in the V of the bow too.
WAYRA is VAT paid and Spanish matriculation tax paid.
WAYRA was our fourth family sailing yacht. We have a long tradition of sailing in the family. We bought WAYRA as we wanted to jump up in size and to have a level of comfort that would allow us to spend much more time on board, without sacrificing sailing performance. It was also important to us to have a yacht that could be easily handled by two people alone.
Since buying WAYRA we have sailed her extensively through the entire Mediterranean, we have used her every summer since purchasing her. We have enjoyed ten formidable summers with her exploring the Mediterranean and being joined by friends and family for some wonderful cruising. WAYRA is enjoyed by all, and both family and friends look forward to spending time aboard her every summer. She has been a real hit for us all.
WAYRA has been part of the family for 10 years and so in that time we have done lots and lots of work to her. She has an extensive sailing program from May to September, but we do not use her for the rest of the year. This down time has allowed us to have extensive maintenance carried out every year. We have changed sails, teak, the whole interior design, navigation systems and technical equipment. We have also changed the tender, as for us it is key to have a sizable RIB, which provides more freedom once WAYRA is at anchor, to explore and of course for water sports.
WAYRA has timeless good looks. We still get that wow factor every time we get back on board at night with the tender after eating at some great island restaurant. She is hugely reliable as well as a sailing yacht – sturdy in storms which we have gone through aplenty with no problem. This gives me great peace of mind. She is also fun to sail in all conditions. When we fly the gennaker or the code zero, we need hands on deck, but it is a great feeling in the right winds. Finally, I would say that maybe because of the endless joy she is brought to us, she has a very special energy. People call it the WAYRA wellness. When they leave the yacht after a few days, their faces are completely different. She has given us lots and we would not dream of selling her if it were not for the fact that we need a larger yacht.
