The Nautor Swan 55 was a breakaway design for Nautor’s Swan. She is a yacht dedicated to cruising with a vast centre cockpit for comfort and safety. Rig and deck plan are designed to facilitate shorthanded use. The engine is the most powerful ever installed as standard in a Swan of this size and is situated in a walk-in engine room together with a generator. GEMM has many refinements for added comfort and ease of handling.
Features include – Reckmann in-mast furling mainsail, electric sheet winches, transom with bathing platform, air-conditioning, watermaker, good sail wardrobe, and much more!
Nautor Swan 55, GEMM’s interior offers an owner’s cabin with double berth and sofa, two guest cabins – sharing one toilet / shower compartment and a fourth double (crew) cabin in the bow.
Completed in December 1992 – GEMM was first registered in 1993 and delivered to the Caribbean and based in St Martin. There she saw light use cruising the islands and was cared for by the Nautor service centre.
In 1998, I sold GEMM, and she was sailed to Mallorca. She was based in Palma and was utilised for Mediterranean family sailing.
I again sold the yacht in December 2005 to her current owners (they took her over on Boxing Day 26th December) and GEMM has since been very well kept and had several refits (2008 and 2014) and most recently 2020-21 with new teak deck, new sails and more.
During the current ownership, she sailed the Med, to the Caribbean with the ARC in 2008 and crossed again 2013. In 2014 she cruised the USA east coast. She was each time shipped back from the Caribbean to Italy and was also shipped from Newport to the Caribbean. Furthermore, she spent 5 years in the Caribbean stored ashore under her winter cover for 10 months per year until 2018. Then, when back in the Med, she has again been stored ashore with her winter cover on for 9-10 month per year from 2019 to 2023. She was launched late June 2023, commissioned, and spent the summer again cruising in Greece. Despite being enjoyed, her mileage and use have been quite light – as you may also note from her low engine and gen set hours. In September 2023, the yacht sails to Italy and will be based in Liguria for the winter 2023-24 (to facilitate client visits).
Nautor Swan 55, GEMM has proved to be the perfect family yacht for us. Her large cockpit, her good stowage, and the fact she is easily sailed have been important features. Unlike many Swans (and other boats) she has a good engine room, and you have space for servicing etc. (important when on a longer cruise).
She has safely (and swiftly) carried us around the Med, across the Atlantic, and around the Caribbean, as well as a lovely cruise up the eastern coast of America. We have used her privately (same as her second owner) and have had no accidents. Most recently, we based her in Greece and have enjoyed sailing the many island groups. Now life is changing for my family, and it is time for GEMM to have new owners.
GEMM sails now under a Monaco flag. The VAT was paid by the former owner when he brought her to Spain in 1998.
