The first of the Functional Power Boats from Dashew Offshore, the only FPB 83 was built for Steve and Linda Dashew, to be operated easily by two people but with good accommodation for six. They steamed over 60,000 nautical miles aboard her and she provided a fast, reliable platform for ocean passaging. She provided the test bed for the FPB 64, of which 11 hulls were built, as well as being key in the development of the FPB 97.
The FPB 83’s interior is executed in high gloss Burmese teak with high gloss teak and holly sole boards. The fit out was executed by Kelly Archer in New Zealand to a very high standard.
Powered by twin 150hp John Deeres, she has a cruising range of 6,000 nautical miles at her 12 knot cruising speed – rising to 9,800 nautical miles at 10 knots. With a top speed of 14 knots, her ability to surf is a key component of the FPB offering and this provides fast passage times and ability to outrun weather.
The ‘Great Room’, which is the signature of an FPB, offers 360 degree vision with watch keeping, living and galley all in one area. She has a large owners’ stateroom aft with a heads compartment and separated shower/bath compartment. Aft there are two spacious guest cabins with heads and access to the engine room aft. This has headroom and great access to all the systems.
With her fine entry and distinctive good looks, the FPB 83 is truly unique.
