Broker’s Comments

I really like FURIE! There, I’ve said it.

The Aquastar Oceanranger 38 hull is well-known for its reputation as a capable and reliable rough-weather performer. Add a bespoke, hand-built Dutch blond mahogany interior, and it transforms into a truly sensational cruising motor yacht.

FURIE has evidently been cherished by her two owners since new and has served both exceptionally well. The main deck is near level throughout, leading forward through substantial varnished timber doors from the sheltered aft cockpit into a wonderful main saloon space within the wheelhouse. She feels immediately solid and purposeful – because she is.

There are plenty of robust handholds, beautifully rounded cabinetry fiddles, and all-round glazing that affords exceptional views – truly a living room on the water. Storage is copious wherever one looks: in the main aft lazarette, forward cockpit buttresses, cabins, and the lockers of the saloon. The aft sofa features a neat pull-out carcass that forms an occasional double berth. Engine access through the sole is outstanding, with excellent soundproofing and two layers of boards insulating the machinery from the crew.

Her helm position is forward to port, integrated rather than separated, and features a lofty seat offering excellent sightlines and easy communication with the navigator opposite, to starboard. Instrumentation is neatly arranged for clarity and ease of reading, with additional navigation information displayed on the mahogany valance above the main console.

An easy companionway leads to the galley area to starboard and a cozy dinette to port. This space benefits from abundant natural light and ventilation, with ample stowage for extended cruising. The dinette also easily converts into an additional double berth.

A typically businesslike Dutch-tiled heads/shower is located just off the dinette area, featuring electric heads, ample ventilation, and smart, easy-to-clean white bulkheads. The forward owner’s cabin in the bows is the best we’ve seen in one of these rare aft-cockpit Oceanrangers. The cabinetry craftsmanship is exceptional, with gorgeous, solid selected mahogany, high-quality fittings, side steps, and a generously sized raised double berth. You really need to see this boat to understand and appreciate the difference.

And underway, she is wonderful. A long, easy gait in smooth water and a soft, cushioned ride when the waters turn rough. The long keel ensures sure-footed tracking and improves steering in close quarters—she goes exactly where you ask! With a bow thruster to hold her nose in crosswinds, she can be steered into tight berths, while her five-bladed propeller grips the briny, improving efficiency and reducing propeller noise underway.

All in all, a proper cruising motor yacht with exceptional provenance and an interior that any yachtsman would be proud of.

Owner’s Comments

I have tried to keep FURIE as simple as possible to make her easy to look after and for my family to handle. Not too many instruments, for easy reading, and keeping the cabins simple to look after and to keep clean.

FURIE is a really safe boat. Big decks to the bow and for coming alongside. A large bathing platform is a staple for safe transfer from dinghy to boat. A good anchor windlass. She handles big or small seas easily. FURIE is lovely as a family bathing and water-skiing base. A delightful, serious, economic, cruising boat, with bright cabins and easily run galley, a huge amount of storage and with the cockpit cover buttoned down for those cooler days, with the heating on in the cockpit, a friend described her as ‘A charming sitting room afloat.’
