Southerly Yachts are renowned for their beautifully crafted designs, offering excellent cruising performance, solid construction, and exceptional comfort below deck. The standout feature is their efficient variable draft, perfected over decades through their expertly engineered swing keel system. This allows owners to explore the shallowest anchorages without compromising superb offshore performance.

Southerly 42RST, ALVERNA II, is in excellent condition, having had just two owners since new. On deck, the spacious cockpit offers comfortable seating, ideal for both entertaining and cruising. The aft section, featuring twin wheels, is thoughtfully designed to provide the helmsman with optimal steering positions, and a full cockpit enclosure ensures excellent protection in all weather conditions.

Below decks she has the popular two cabin layout but can sleep six comfortably due to the lowered saloon table. The raised saloon and chart table give excellent visibility in all weathers. To starboard there is a good-sized linear galley with plenty of storage.

ALVERNA II has been cruised in European waters since new. After purchasing the yacht, the current owners made numerous updates at Northshore Shipyard before sailing to the Mediterranean. She comes turnkey ready and perfectly equipped to continue her sailing adventures.

Owner’s Comments

ALVERNA II was built in 2011 and sailed mainly in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Her first owners gave up sailing during Covid and we were lucky to purchase her in 2022, after trying to find a 42 RST for years. We sailed her back to the Northshore Shipyard where she underwent a full overhaul and some modernisations, to make her ready for a journey to the Med and then around the globe. The whole bottom of the boat was sandblasted, and the original layers of paint and antifouling restored to new build level. Preventative maintenance was carried out and the pendant of the lift keel and all toilet waste pipes were replaced and the engine and generator serviced.

To perfect the manoeuvrability in confined spaces, we also added a stern thruster, which makes her a perfect boat for a crew of two.

We also replaced the chartplotter and the AIS system with up to date versions. The original sprayhood and enclosure were replaced with a new sprayhood and bimini top, including a new full enclosure to make her ready for warmer climates. The bimini top houses 2 pockets for 340W solar panels. We also added a new electric toilet in the aft bathroom.

In summer 2023, ALVERNA II left England and we sailed her to Cartagena in Spain, where she is now birthed. It was a delight to take her through the Bay of Biscay, where we once reached 11.9kts max speed.

Due to unforeseen health reasons, we have to give up sailing and hope she finds a new owner who takes her to the places she deserves.
