The Southerly 42RST combines a fast, modern hull shape with good performance, stability, and comfortable long-distance or blue water cruising. This S42 from 2009 is an excellent example of this popular, raised saloon Bluewater cruising yacht. The famous Southerly swing keel allows exploration of places other similar-sized yachts cannot reach.

SOUTHERN COMFORT features a 3-cabin layout offering 8 berths and ample space for friends and family. The internal joinery is of a high standard, finished in American Cherry wood, providing richness and warmth. The deck saloon brings in plenty of light, offers panoramic views, and has seating for 6-8 people around the saloon table. The saloon table has folding leaves and a lowering pedestal, converting it to a double berth if needed. The navigation station is opposite in the deck saloon with a forward-facing chart table, and the large and secure linear galley benefits from its passageway location. Aft is the owner’s suite with en-suite heads/shower.

Her sail plan is excellent, offering a good selection for all winds. The main and genoa were new in 2020, along with new in-mast furling and standing rigging replaced at the same time. The aft section, featuring twin wheels, is thoughtfully designed to provide the helmsman with optimal steering positions. A full cockpit enclosure ensures excellent protection in all weather conditions.

SOUTHERN COMFORT has been maintained to the highest standard, and with her many recent updates, she is now ready for her new owners!

Owner’s Comments

We bought SOUTHERN COMFORT as we wanted to enjoy some more exhilarating ocean sailing and explore waters that would otherwise be out of bounds to fixed keel yachts.

We have loved being able to cross the Channel and Biscay safely and quickly and also anchor in sheltered shallow bays and creeks, slip up estuaries and rivers and even explore the canal systems of Europe. We also rave about the raised saloon that allows us to enjoy the surroundings whilst dining below and even helm the boat from the chart table at times on long passages.

SOUTHERN COMFORT has proved to be a comfortable home whether with extended family or friends of up to 8 people and we have spent over 3 months aboard last summer in the Med crossing from Spain to Greece, visiting over 25 islands on route. We only need a bigger boat because we are now planning a Pacific Ocean liveaboard adventure.
