• Your bluewater cruiser not only needs to be capable of looking after you on long passages, but she will also be your home for extended periods living aboard.
• Safety and reliability are definitely top priorities. You will need dependable navigation systems and reliable structural features that will be able to withstand any harsh weather you may encounter.
• Good performance is always desirable, especially if considering the ARC or further.
• Easy sail handling from a comfortable and well protected cockpit will make your cruising more enjoyable.
• The more living space the better so be sure to choose the right sized yacht for your crew numbers so that you do not feel crowded.
• You will want to optimise comfort below deck with a well thought out, easy living interior offering plenty of storage for all the essentials of life.
• Accompany all this with a healthy investment in good domestic gadgetry and you can turn your bluewater cruiser into a real ocean home.

As bluewater specialists, Berthon are sponsors of the World Cruising Club’s ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) and have been co-hosting the annual WCC Bluewater Weekend since 2014. Traditionally a live event at Berthon’s HQ in Lymington – in the last two years in response to the pandemic it has gone online as the WCC Bluewater Cockpit Conversations.

Together, the WCC and Berthon have welcomed sailors from 54 countries, all tuning in for a range of Club Night topics, webinars, videos and podcasts, carefully aimed at helping them plan for their bluewater cruising programme. Taking this event online was necessary and has proved a huge success. However, we hope to welcome our bluewater delegates back to Lymington for a live event in May/June 2023. We will keep you posted so that you can save the date.

Berthon also work closely with the Ocean Cruising Club. Its members are made up of true bluewater adventure sailors who have all made continuous passages of at least 1,000 nautical miles. The OCC supports its members in all corners of the globe, bringing them together as one cruising community.
