Hunt Yachts was founded by the legendary Ray Hunt designer & yacht captain, who cracked the code and patented the deep-V hull design in the 1960’s which is still widely used in the pleasure & commercial sector for its performance, seakeeping and comfort. Ray Hunt made a huge contribution to both the sailing and power yacht world from the State of Massachusetts where he grew up and changed yacht design forever. C. Raymond Hunt Associates naval architects are the designers for Grand Banks as well as Hunt Yachts who are positioned in Portsmouth, Rhode Island with production in Koasiung Taiwan. The current range is between 56 – 76 feet, with the ethos being rough water capability, comfortable ride and pleasing on the eye. Hunt Yachts are able to be customised to the layout and specification that the client desires, within reason. The Hinckley Company acquired Hunt Yachts in 2013 bringing together their shared passion for classic design styles and quality of build.
HIGHLAND LASSIE is hull number 3 of the much sought-after Hunt 52. Delivered in June 2010 she was the first 52 to hit European shores. Generously specified from new, she has the Flag Blue painted topsides with the marine green antifouling for a striking look on the water.
You can view HIGLAND LASSIE on video here:
Still in the same ownership, HIGHLAND LASSIE has spent the majority of her time in the southern Mediterranean and was specified as such, with a custom Bimini, Benzoni passerelle for stern mooring and an upgraded reverse cycle air-conditioning system, which will heat as well as cool.
HIGHLAND LASSIE has been spoilt in terms on maintenance, with a full time captain and winters spent undercover. Anything needed doing has been attended to and the electronics have been significantly upgraded, with the latest C-Zone Digital switching package. Now connected with Peplink 3G /4G router, the yacht systems can be managed through a touch screen tablet anywhere on board. Remote access is also available from the sentinel mobile application. On top of this a 22” Garmin HD Chart plotter display has been installed with camera monitoring for the engine room and stern mooring.
However, it is on the water where HIGHLAND LASSIE impresses most. Helming from the Stidd electric chair you have panoramic visibility that is second to none. Bow & stern thruster are on hand, although you rarely need them, as she is a predictable with masses of torque on tap from the Caterpillars engines. The lack of noise / vibration at high speed is the giveaway to how well built HIGHLAND LASSIE is, with the hull slipping & cutting through the water with authority & elegance.
HIGHLAND LASSIE is teak decked, with a varnished capping rail that leads you around the wide side decks, comforted by the high supporting guard rails. You will instantly notice the solid feel on the flush decks, combined with the lavish proportions, it’s a delight to move around her exterior.
A touch of a button will raise the garage door where a custom Hunt tender is stowed painted in matching colours. On conventional shaft drive, the power comes from a pair of Caterpillar C-12 705HP diesel engines for a comfortable cruising speed of 24 knots. With Caterpillars engines renowned for clocking thousands of hours, this pair of C-12 are in their infancy with under 400 hours clocked and have been professionally serviced.
She has electric blinds on the forward screens and manual blinds throughout, which I’m pleased to say has kept the stunning Cherry interior, finished in Satin, in very good condition.
In the master stateroom forward the owner added some additional sound proofing to the hull, to remove any hull noise that you normally expect in the bow. A window has been added above the queen berth for gazing out at night.
This truly stunning gentleman’s motor yacht is available for sale and is rare to the brokerage market. Having had many happy memories on board the owner would like to find someone who will take good care of her, whilst making the most of her abilities.
