Hylas 70, AMANTE – Caught on Film

We have been aboard Hylas 70 AMANTE on various occasions, most recently in late September 2020 when she lay ashore near Barcelona.

The first thing you notice about Hylas 70, AMANTE is that she does not “stand” so high out of the water on account of her lifting centre-board keel. This is a great aide to sail performance, with the added bonus of allowing access to the smaller and shallower harbours and anchorages (and means, when ashore, the ladder is not a harrowing thought!).

With her Awlgrip painted “Stars & Stripes blue” topsides with clear coat, gold cove stripe, and white boot stripe, AMANTE is a striking yacht afloat or ashore.

Boarding the yacht from aft, the transom is cleverly designed with “cut-out” swim platform and steps – easy to use and no complicated systems to maintain. There is a spacious storage garage accessed from the steps. There are s/s davits aft for stowing the dinghy – which is now stored away for winter.

Forward towards the cockpit, past the twin helms, you will find a clear deck, all on one level with just one effortless step down to the cockpit itself. Removing the canvas covers from the pedestals reveals helms with new fascia panels made up with new control switches.

The teak cockpit table is also covered but underneath the varnish is in good shape and when you open out those two big leaves you can seat 8 to 10 people.

There is plenty of space to relax out of the sun or protected from the weather and anyone on the helm feels part of the group (and they can enjoy the comfortable helm seats!). The cockpit area is teak laid. The main deck areas are finished in non-slip paint, which is very practical and easy on maintenance.

Hylas 70, AMANTE is clearly set up for easy sail handling with her in-boom furling mainsail, hydraulic headstay furlers and hydraulic winches.

Back to the cockpit and five easy steps take you down the companionway and to her finely crafted solid teak interior. Immediately striking is her superb saloon table with its four fold out corners.

AMANTE’s cabin soles are satin finished teak with ebony inlays (and custom locking mechanisms). Head and shower areas are all painted white Awlgrip and feature Corian vanity tops, solid Corian sinks and heated towel racks. Hanging lockers are lined with cedar. There are OceanAir hatch screens/blinds throughout with motorized shades in main salon. Pulling back the green crew covers, you discover custom leather upholstery. The cabins have custom mattresses and tasteful bedding.

It is a flexible interior and remarkably spacious for 70 ft.

Two double cabins with island beds, a further double cabin plus a twin cabin – all with their own facilities.

AMANTE also has all the “mod-cons” such as – bowthruster, generator, water-maker, air-conditioning, heating, excellent and capacious refrigeration, instant hot water outlet, ice-maker, modern TV’s, updated electronics, modern music systems, coffee machine … and more!

Upon personal inspection you could not fail to be impressed by her many attributes, the space, comfort, and attention to detail throughout.

AMANTE remains in the hands of her first owners. They had her built to their particular and very high specifications. They have since enjoyed her immensely and have kept her in good shape.

This is an ideal set up for a family cruising yacht and will suit an owner who wants to sail as a family or if they prefer, to have a crew.

Since her launch in 2007, AMANTE has been continually upgraded, improved and maintained. There has not been any one single refit but particularly in 2015-17 the vessel has been refurbished and upgraded with work undertaken in Greece and in Italy. In 2019, the mast was out, and the standing rigging replaced.

The Hylas 70 is a great yacht and AMANTE an even better one.

2. Easily managed with her excellent on deck systems.
3. Spacious interior with four en-suite cabins plus the saloon.
4. Excellent cockpit and exterior living areas – suited for all climates with her awnings and tent.
5. High-level maintenance with a “no cost spared” attitude since new.
