July 2022 – Summer Holidays, Yacht Sales Insights, Changing Tides

The ‘Summer Holidays’ have started for many, with hotter weather and heat waves reaching all of our yacht sales locations and we can’t help but notice that everyone is keeping cool on the water. Whether you are sailing around the UK’s Solent, enjoying the long days around Sweden’s Island of Orust, cruising the Mediterranean or yachting around Rhode Island Sound, we wish you fair winds.

We’d like to start by introducing a new feature, aimed at keeping all those interested in the international yacht sales market informed of any key trends and news. Whether you are buying, selling or cruising your yacht, keep a lookout for our now monthly insights news bulletin – aptly titled this month Top 6 Yacht Sales Insights for July 2022. It is available now.

We announced this month that our longstanding contract with Windy Boats has now come to an end. This mutual decision was agreed upon because our business models have diverged and as such the dealer arrangement is no longer a good fit for either party. Berthon will continue to support our Windy clients, providing a proactive Windy brokerage service and offering after sales care for any Windy boats we have sold or have in build.

We would like to introduce you to Dixon 65, LIARA – elegant & capable magic carpet material. She is a fantastically fast sailing yacht with a great interior for entertaining below. Much updated for a serious world cruise that couldn’t happen, LIARA now needs new owners to complete these adventures. We have captured her on film for you so that you can have a good look around.

With many clients turning to us to prepare for the ARC or help plan their world cruising adventures, we would like to remind you that Berthon International are all-round specialists in bluewater cruising yachts. The latest on Solaris Yachts’ Summer is that Solaris 44, VOLARE showed off sparkling Solaris sailing performance for the Solent’s Round the Island Race, coming first over the water and second in her class on corrected time. Berthon’s Alan McIlroy, who had only just returned from the Solaris Days and Solaris Cup 2022 in Porto Rotondo, jumped aboard with VOLARE’s owner, crew and Berthon Boat Company MD, Brian May, for a fabulous and successful day of Solaris racing.

We are big fans of the work carried about by the Marine Conservation Research team aboard RV SONG OF THE WHALE. In our latest blog Marine Conservation explain how whales are one of our biggest allies in combating climate change and how SONG OF THE WHALE’s research teams have been surveying UK’s waterways to track their numbers. SONG OF THE WHALE is currently for sale with Berthon International. We hope that her commercial operation and the work that she does will be continued and thus joint ventures and other proposals around her future use are also interesting for her owners.

News from Berthon Spain’s ‘Big Blue Shed’

Berthon Spain’s Rowan Fairbrass has been pondering What’s in a (boat) name? It seems there are quite a few things to consider and yacht owners come up with all sorts of interesting choices. It has also recently come to our attention that the UK Registry is now cross-referencing proposed yacht names with the Urban Dictionary to ensure nothing offensively named flies a British flag.
