Oyster LD43, FLORIDITA is a well maintained, optimised and comprehensively equipped motor yacht by Oyster Marine. Built in conjunction with McDell Marine in New Zealand – she is rare in that she harnesses the virtues of waterjet propulsion in a recreational vessel: low vibration levels, low draft operation, lack of underwater projections and a mechanically simple propellant system (essentially a turbine forcing a jet of pressurised water through a directional nozzle). Oyster Marine developed the system in tandem with Hamilton Waterjet, using the Hamilton Blue Arrow Mouse controller to enable pinpoint accuracy via a tracking mouse at the helm station (with a further two redundancy-providing control systems).
With the preferred twin Yanmar 6LY3 set-up on FLORIDITA, 960 horsepower is on hand to push this ten-ton hull to 30 knots, whilst returning a comfortable cruising range of c.255 Nautical Miles with a 20% reserve. Her engines have been serviced in late 2022, as have her jets. Of course, she is well known to us here at Berthon, having been sold previously through the Berthon Sales Group’s books.
Watch the movie:
FLORIDITA has been upgraded by previous owners – with precise Duplex fuel filtration and new on-board fuel-polishing having been added in 2016, additional interior radiators and exterior handholds fitted, in anticipation of some longer-distance cruising to the Baltic, which she completed in comfort and with ease. She is fitted with solar panels to keep charge trickling into your batteries, cameras to assist berthing, and wants for nothing on her inventory.
The ‘LD’ denotes Lunch and Dinner – and, whilst she is eminently capable of helping her crew to deliver both, she also sports a beautifully fitted interior.
Her forward cabin has had extra storage added-with a run of useful eye-level lockers, with a large stowage locker underneath the mattress. It is all beautifully executed, as you would expect from Oyster Marine, and there is excellent headroom throughout, and one of the best heads/shower compartments in the business.
The galley is neatly located to port, with a dishwasher, stainless steel fridge, safe, all-electric cooking and (again) very good storage, with a large locker beneath the galley sole.
However, the LD is all about the drive, and the wheelhouse is unique in layout.
Fully glazed, there is a sensational view out from the two infinitely adjustable NorSap seats – one for the helm and one the navigator. The navigator has their own plotter with chart table and the helm has everything to hand, including the Blue Arrow control, external CCTV display, instant Yanmar fuel flow, autopilot, triple Exalto wipers, compass and main navigational data on an upgraded plotter. Sliding windows, overhead hatches and dropping aft bulkhead windows (including the door), encourage ventilation and ensure that her interior remains fresh at sea.
Aft of the helm chairs, the twin three-seater alcantara-trimmed sofas sit above both engine bays, and are mechanically raised to allow great access to her insulated tanks, engines, batteries and chargers. The central sole lifts to enter the central tank, and forward generator space. Once lowered you would have no idea of what lies below, just a very social entertaining space with two tables, great views and very commodious seating – I guess this is the dinner arena…
Upon sliding open the exquisitely-built polished stainless aft door, the really clever trick of this boat becomes clear – she sports two very different, but very cleverly conceived, areas.
A highly varnished central table conceals a fridge, and has a pair of hinged leaves to afford everyone a place at the table. The useful side mouldings are both seat bases, steps to the side decks, and accessible storage for any deck gear/hoses/spares and general yachting paraphernalia. With the aft-mounted jet systems being fitted underneath large hatch in the teak-laid sole, everything is simple to get to – including her main strainers, which were moved aft, to bring them into reach of the hatch – and the hinged transom gate folds flush, creating a clear, effective bathing platform.
We are open seven-days of the week and would very much look forward to welcoming you on board, and to helping with any queries on this superb example of the LD43.
