The Windy 27 Solano, from Windy Boats, is a thoroughbred performance sports boat. Drawing on Windy’s know-how of building pure, open speedboats – her modernised retro lines hark back to the low, lean sports boats of the 60s and 70s, but offer exceptional ability, combined with the highest standards of build and finish available today.
Legendary handling from her pin-sharp Hans Jørgen Johnsen deep-vee hull is matched with an ergonomic and well-protected cockpit – offering relaxed seating, an aft sunpad, an exceptional helm position and an optional wet bar. The cockpit is easily closed using Windy’s latest generation canopy technology, or shaded with a canvas bimini. There is a range of quality exterior upholstery options from Sunbrella and Spradling, so you can choose your look. Below decks, she sports a comfortable double berth and separate fully fitted heads – so she is not just a day boat!
She shares the same bloodline and purposeful curves of her bigger sister – the Windy 32 Grand Zonda – and fits a huge amount of fun and function into her 8.24m length. Installed with a punchy petrol or diesel Volvo Penta engine, the Windy 27 Solano promises exhilarating speed (topping out over 40 knots), with a super-soft ride and predictable manners.
Even when pushed, the hull is incredibly forgiving and, to quote Motor Boat & Yachting’s 2018 test…
“I can still remember the sudden absence of hull noise as water gave way to air and we flew straight as an arrow for a good couple of boat lengths before landing with a satisfying whoomph and continuing on our way.”
Unrivalled sea keeping is no accident. Windy have been building for 55 years and have worked with naval architect Hans Jørgen Johnsen over several decades to fine-tune their deep-vee hulls. Using high-tech and sophisticated resin-transfer moulding processes produces an incomparably stiff, strong, yet light hull – so promoting enhanced fuel economy whilst improving handling, and making the Windy 27 Solano rewarding to drive; faster and longer than the others..
