The Windy 34 Khamsin, first launched in 2001, quickly became a favorite among sports cruiser enthusiasts in the Mediterranean and Northern European markets. Renowned for its superior performance and elegant design, the 34 Khamsin was equipped with KAD300 engines, delivering 285HP through an exceptionally refined deep-vee hull. This power choice was ideally suited to the weight, style, and attitude of the Khamsin. Combined with its sleek lines and innovative features, this made the model a standout in its class.
Designed by the acclaimed Hans Jorgen Johnsen, the Khamsin features an aggressively-sharpened hull design, ensuring a smooth and exhilarating drive by cutting through waves with ease. Motor Boat & Yachting praised the Khamsin as ‘glamorous, fast, incredibly sporty, very quiet, and extremely well-built’.
Owners could choose between sports or sun pad cockpit layouts – both offering plenty of space to relax, and all trimmed to a class-leading high standard of finish. (All of the Khamsin clan were built in Norway at Windy’s legendary Arendal yard.) The luxurious interior was designed with comfort in mind, providing ample space for four guests, with a forward convertible V-berth and an amidships cabin offering flexible sleeping arrangements. Ideal for weekend getaways, the Khamsin also featured a well-appointed galley and a spacious heads/shower compartment.
On deck, the Khamsin featured three bolstered custom sports seats forward, capacious lazarettes, a cockpit wet-bar, and a proper ergonomic driver’s helm. The foredeck is easily accessible via an opening windscreen section, supported by sturdy handholds, and there is space to store a tender and outboard in the engine room, showcasing the thoughtful design and practical amenities that make owning and operating the Khamsin a joy.
In 2003/4, Windy introduced the upgraded 35 Khamsin model, largely keeping to the tried and tested format of the 34’s interior and cockpits. This version featured an extended hull and bathing platform to accommodate the new range of Volvo D-series engines. The 35 Khamsin also offered the option of the larger D6 engine, capable of reaching up to 400HP, providing exhilarating speeds in excess of 48 knots depending on conditions. This upgrade solidified the Khamsin’s reputation for high performance and agility, making it a favorite among speed aficionados.
The Windy 35 Khamsin remained in production until 2013. Its enduring popularity is evident in the strong demand for well-maintained examples on the brokerage market today.
In summary, the Windy Khamsin series, both the 34 and 35 models, exemplifies Windy’s superior craftsmanship and performance in comparison with their peers. Their combination of speed, comfort, and style has cemented their status as exceptional and much-coveted sports cruisers.
