Broker’s Comments

84′ Custom Frers Sloop METOLIUS is a true offshore voyager, with an easily driven hull form and a powerful sail plan which was conceived and engineered to be easily managed by minimal crew. Designed by German Frers, she has stunning lines and is both fast and graceful. The quality of the Royal Huisman build is a joy to behold, and she is a robust and sea-worthy vessel, easily sailed and with a deep safe aft cockpit.

METOLIUS was built for family sailing and her overall arrangement on deck and below is ideal for family living, offering absolute comfort and privacy in her cabins and her very spacious full width airy saloon.

Her luxurious yet timeless interior, designed by Peter Beeldsnijder, is detailed in varnished teak with an ambiance that exudes elegant warmth with an uncanny functionality. The whole interior is crafted to the highest Huisman standards.

The interior layout includes a comfortable midships owners’ double cabin with ensuite head and shower cubicle. Guest / crew accommodation is flexible depending on use – with three twin cabins, and two heads each with showers. Forward is a superb workshop / stowage area. The galley is midships and fully equipped and very spacious and ideal at sea. The chart area is aft and port side of the saloon. There is a separate “pump room” and good easy access to the engine, systems, and gen set.

METOLIUS has proven herself as a perfect ocean cruising yacht. She has always had the benefit of exceptional preventative maintenance, and continual refitting. In 2020 the mast was out, painted and she had new standing rigging. In early summer 2023 she was ashore for annual services. Summer 2024 she has had all new service batteries.

Simply stated, she is ready to go and quite stunning!

Owner’s Comments

After buying METOLIUS in America we made a general refit, deep overhaul of the engine and other works to prepare her for the Atlantic. We sailed her to the Med. After the first summer we did further work and maintenance, most important was renewing the standing rigging. I love the yacht and have had wonderful times on board.

Before the 2022 season we fixed the boat’s heating and hot water circulation systems that run through the exchanger on the main engine (that system had not worked since I bought her). We then sanded the whole teak deck and applied the maintenance oil. The engine, the generator, and the water maker were serviced. We had a great summer on board and have continued to use and enjoy her each summer with family and friends (whilst also maintaining her as she deserves). METOLIUS is wonderful and I am sad to sell but life changes and so you now have this opportunity.

  • Under her first ownership, the owner and family cruised over 90,000 miles aboard – at a combined average speed of over 9 knots!
  • Under her second ownership, METOLIUS cruised from Alaska to both sides of the Atlantic, throughout the Caribbean, Northern Europe, and Scotland to the Mediterranean.
  • In 2015 she was then passed to a sailing foundation in the USA. Based in Baltimore area she was sailed locally in the summer periods.
  • In 2018 the present owners acquired her, undertook a general overhaul and upgrade, and enjoyed her in the summer 2019. Further upgrades including full rigging replacement and mast overhaul were completed in early summer 2020 (delayed a bit by Covid). The owner was unable to sail in 2020 due to Covid. Their captain, with them since purchase stayed on through the summer. Spring 2021 new crew were employed for the season and the yacht prepared and later sailed through the summer in Greece and the Adriatic.
  • In September 2021 METOLIUS was in Venice for the winter.
  • Summer 2022 the yacht was again enjoyed by the owner family and friends sailing the Adriatic and Greek area. She returned in September 2022 and again wintered in Venice (where we viewed and listed her for sale in January 2023).
  • Spring 2023 – METOLIUS sailed from Venice in early June to Croatia, initially for her spring service, haul out, antifouling, etc. in Trogir. Later she sailed south to explore Southern Croatia, Italy, and Sicily.
  • Winter 2023-24 back in Venice. Summer 2024 cruising south via Croatia to Greece.
  • New service batteries installed near Athens July 2024.
  • The vessel is ready to continue her remarkable voyaging legacy.
