Broker’s Comments

LIBERTAD Swan 56-022 was conceived from the outset as a cruising version Swan 56. She has a custom interior with two main sleeping cabins (one forward and one aft), and a custom deck plan and sailing systems. She has the standard keel with 2.7m draft. For easy sailing shorthanded, the yacht has Reckmann hydraulic genoa furling, electric winches and a bowthruster.

I first knew Swan 56-022 as EXIT when she was in Mallorca in her first ownership around 2008-9.
She then returned to Sweden, and I was involved with her sale in 2010 from her first Swedish ownership to a second Swedish owner. He changed her name to SIGRID and sailed south again to Mallorca.

In 2011 I was again involved in her sale, together with Berthon USA, and she was shipped to the USA. Her third owner renamed her MOONDANCE and enjoyed her, sailing, mostly on the east coast of the USA, based out of Rhode Island. In 2017 I was once again involved with her sale, again with our US office, to the present Norwegian ownership.

The owner made some upgrades in the USA and sailed her over to Europe. During the past seven years the yacht has been sailed in the Med and in Scandinavia. As you will see in recent years her owner has hugely improved her, including cruising North sails, and more modern instruments. Specifically, since 2022 he has upgraded many systems, including, a new Yanmar engine, new generator, new Lithium-ion battery system, new refrigeration and watermaker. Emphasis has been placed on ease of use, redundancy, and the capability to cruise and stay at anchor for extended periods of time, even months.

Owner’s Comments

As most Swans, this vessel was made to the highest specs and intended for crossing oceans and visit the most remote areas of the world. In 2018-2019 we spent two seasons in the Caribbean and had a taste of this way of life, and frequently look back at the careless days of sailing among small paradise-like islands and bays.

The intention was to revisit the Caribbean a few years later and cross the Pacific Ocean over the course of a few years. To prepare the vessel for such a trip I replaced nearly all critical hardware onboard (main engine, genset, watermaker, new and modern navigation system and much more). At the core, servicing the electrical consumers, is the establishment of a smart and capable electrical system that is easy and reliable to operate, while maintaining redundancy – a long-standing principle of Nautor Swans. This system consists of Victron Energy components (Li-ion battery bank + BMW, charger/inverter, and control system) interfaced with the genset. Importantly, the power capacity can be scaled further with new requirements. With the arrival of affordable satellite communication (Starlink), it is now possible to remain continuously connected to the internet for weather forecast, entertainment, and communication throughout longer offshore passages. This allows remote online work if needed, while also enjoying the sunsets anchored off Barbuda or some of the many other wonderful locations accessible to sailboats. The extensive Victron system onboard Libertad is on par with what many new Swans in her size range are delivered with, although they come at a 10x price point.

If you value quality, redundancy, comfort, reliability combined with ease-of-use while sailing to remote beaches and cruising in faraway places – then LIBERTAD is a superb candidate to do so in style and at a fraction of the price of a new vessel of her stature.
