Broker’s Comments

BLUE QUEST is a much-loved and updated example of the evergreen Nelson 45.

Moulded by Tylers of Tonbridge and fitted out with gorgeous teak joinery to a very high original standard by J.M. Sugrue, this vessel can handle all conditions thrown at her with aplomb. She is equipped with a pair of Ford Sabres (her original engines), which were unshipped in 2021 and re-manufactured by Timik. The remanufacturing process included overhauling the fuel injection system, turbochargers, cylinder heads, checking and re-lining the block, replacing all hoses, air filters, heat exchangers, intercooler tube stacks, fuel filter assemblies, hydraulic lines, pressure switches, mounting brackets, and feet. Following this, a four-hour dyno test was performed, and the engines were re-painted. As a result, her engine room, which was cleaned and re-painted prior to re-installation, looks immaculate. She is ready for many more adventures, with her generator upgraded to a Beta Gen. 10 4-pole 10kW set, new electronics systems installed (including a Furuno 4’ open array scanner & Doppler radar), silky new Kobelt engine controls at both stations, and an Eberspacher M11 D8W hydronic diesel-fired heating system to keep you warm when the weather turns. To ensure easy handling in port, she is also equipped with a new Side-Power stern thruster and bow thruster (with moulded eyebrows on the tube) – all controlled via a remote-control pendant.

So, as you will read, the heavy lifting has been done. However, her owners have new plans, and this Nelson 45 is now offered to the market. While her exterior brightwork requires some attention, and although her windows have been removed and re-sealed, there is some minor joinery work needed to bring a few areas up to the very high standards of the original fit-out. However, for those seeking a magic carpet that is ready to go, with reliable engineering, state-of-the-art electronics and heating, ample accommodation, and offshore capability beyond reproach, this vessel is more than fit for purpose.

Selected by harbourmasters, commercial operators, and many militaries, and enjoyed by some of the great powerboat heroes, these efficient and business-like motor yachts are hugely engineered. Without any mention of problematic electronic controls or pods, when those beautiful chrome-rockered Sabres fire up, there is a reassuring growl and the promise of proper passage-making.

This particular 45 has been thoroughly and systematically sorted under discerning, experienced, and knowledgeable ownership.

So, dab the starter buttons, bring her back to tick over, strap in if the weather is up, brace yourself, push those tall chrome Kobelt control stalks into drive, and you are away. There is very little in our waters that can unsettle the might of these hugely built hulls, designed by the legendary Peter Thornycroft. The 45 has enough beam, length, and weight to remain one of the ultimate long-range cruising machines that money can buy.

Owner’s Comments

BLUE QUEST’s spacious interior and superb passage-making capabilities have made our three years of owning her a pure pleasure. During our tenure we have made significant improvements to her electronics, and have added thrusters, renewed her generator, and had her engines removed and professionally re-manufactured by Timik to ensure that she remains a reliable and versatile little ship for her next owners to enjoy. Due to changing plans with our boating, we have not yet tackled her exterior varnishing, and have allowed for this in our pricing of her. She is exceptionally well-found, and her weight, size and ability set her apart from many lesser pretenders.
