Broker’s Comments

SCULLY was launched in 2020 for her current owner and is well-maintained and presented in excellent condition. This ‘galley-up’ version of the model boasts a very high specification of navigational and domestic equipment, making this Seaward 29 a great long-distance pocket cruiser. The model was originally launched by Seaward in 1989, which speaks volumes for how capable and trusted this design has proven to be. While the boat has been upgraded in terms of machinery and interior fit-out, the unbeatable cockpit, wheelhouse, heads, and berth concept remains unchanged.

As a Nelson hull drawn by the wizard Arthur Mursell of TT Boat Designs, she handles weather with aplomb in conditions that would see similarly sized craft held in port, making her an exceptionally reliable passage-maker when the water gets rough.

Featuring a cozy aft cockpit, SCULLY was commissioned with modified seating for much more comfort and support than the standard mouldings allow. A very useful step-through from the bathing platform makes boarding from aft a breeze, and her owner was intent on making single-handing as stress-free as possible—so the stern thruster is a real boon for close-quarter berthing work. Moving around her wide, safe decks is no chore either, thanks to grippy Flexiteek decking, high, solid guardrails, and plenty of grab holds where needed, ensuring one feels secure heading forward.

She fits a great deal into her 29 feet as well, with a light and airy upper galley in the wheelhouse, a well-proportioned heads compartment, forward berth, and two wonderfully sprung KAB suspension seats for helm and navigator. A neat pair of oak panels isolates the forward cabin from the wheelhouse as required, and there is surprisingly usable stowage wherever it can be fitted. She is no slouch either, with her twin Yanmar 250s packing a mighty punch—achieving over 30 knots on trial.

The Seaward 29 is, therefore, a superb coastal cruiser, designed and built to be enjoyable to drive, even when the going gets a little rough. These boats are safe, practical, and easy to handle.

Manufacturers Comments

The Seaward Classic C-29 is a powerful twin engine, four berth, offshore motor cruiser from the Seaward design stable. With its round bilge semi-displacement hull and weighing in at over 6 tons this is a craft designed to provide a high standard of sea keeping, handling and comfort for the cross-channel and cruising owner. The predictable and precise manoeuvrability achieved with the 3/4 length keel, contra-rotating propellers, and large twin foil section rudders, make this a very user-friendly craft when it comes to mooring up.

Press Comments

“It is easy to see why these boats have such a devoted following. They isolate you from some of the less popular aspects of boating and, being built to handle a force 8 and 4m seas, they simply create confidence. Being an old-school semi-displacement design, based on a proven concept that cuts through rough weather.” Powerboat & RIB.

“The Seaward 29 is one of those hardy perennials that just seems to run and run. There is an essential rightness to the concept; a complete absence of fashion, replaced by a total sense of fit for purpose.”
