The Trader 42 offers exceptional comfort for motor-cruising. Finished to a very high level, the 42 expanded on the popularity of the Trader 41+2, which it replaced, offering a solidly built, semi-displacement boat with offshore capability, and light, bright living spaces, with plenty of storage to allow longer periods of living on board.
BIASHARA was shipped to Guernsey and launched in May 2008 for her original owner before her second owner paid her VAT. She has the preferred two-cabin layout, both featuring en-suites, and prodigious hanging space/lockers throughout. Power comes courtesy of twin Cummins QSB 5.9 litre engines, for a top speed of 20 knots and great efficiency at slower cruising speeds.
She is now in her third careful ownership, under the stewardship of an experienced motor-cruising family, who have substantially updated her – with new covers, heating, a refurbished galley, and extensive machinery refurbishment, all on top of routine maintenance. Thus, she is beautifully presented for sale and has copious service history.
The 42 is reassuringly crafted to RCD Category A (Ocean class) for 6 passengers, and when you are onboard, this is evident in the gauge of her stainless steel, breadth of her decks, height of the all-round bulwarks and just a feeling of innate strength. Her helm is very comfortable, with twin seats to starboard under a highly versatile recent canvas hood, excellent visibility all round and a navigator’s bench to port, there really is no need for the lower helm position.
With a useful deck access door onto her starboard side deck, and relatively few steps on board – she is a very safe yacht to work. The huge bonus of only one helm is that the saloon can be given over entirely to accommodation – so the raised table and seating to port has fantastic views out of the landscape windows. The re-modelled galley is light and spacious – a really pleasant place to be. Traders have always put good stock in a decent engine space, and the walk-in engine room here is no different, with bright lighting, white-painted bilges, and plenty of space around her prime movers. Moving forward, the forward cabin has good headroom, plenty of storage and is en-suite to a roomy heads/shower to port.
Of course, Traders are fabled for their aft cabins, and the aft cabin here is quite superb – with a double berth set askew to maximise available space, a great picture port-light set into the transom, useful stowage, and another very good en-suite. All really nicely done and so comfortable. You can understand why her current Owners have enjoyed their time travelling with her so very much – but plans change and thus she is prepared and offered to the discerning market. For those looking for a well-found, properly-built semi-displacement cruiser which is comfortable at sea, on a river estuary, at anchor and in harbour – this is a boat really well worth checking out. HMR inspected.
