The Windy 39 Camira needs no introduction to sport-boat fans. It is one of the most capable hulls available in the market today, offering an uncompromising, forgiving, and confidence-inspiring ride. It was awarded the accolade of Motor Boat of the Year by Motor Boats & Yachting magazine in the sports boats class.
Its massively-constructed deep-vee hull builds on the huge success of the awesome Windy 31 Zonda, resulting in an epically competent and fun drive – taking on big seas and sharp crests with ease (we’ve been there and done that… believe me – we’ve done that!). A pair of punchy D6-400 diesels offers top speeds in excess of 40 knots, with impressive acceleration and surprising economy at fast cruising speeds (please see the real-world Volvo Penta consumption chart below) – 70 litres per hour combined at 35 knots!
The 39 Camira is also a great choice for those who want the capability of a 40-foot hull without the unnecessary volume of a traditional cruiser. It is a true mile-eater and equally well suited for blasts across the English Channel for lunch or trips down to the West Country or over to Ireland for the weekend. The accommodation includes two comfortable, well-designed, and beautifully trimmed cabins, with plenty of storage and finished in Light Oak. The spacious shower compartment with Esthec flooring has ample natural light, and the lower galley is fitted with a microwave, sink, fridge, and even original chopping boards!
The cockpit is sensational, with a safe, well-protected cockpit, a sun pad aft, atop a useful tender garage, and a superb forward driving position. When the weather turns, the new-generation canopy system on the 39 is a huge plus and easily folds out into position, with final tensioning at the touch of a button. The canopy can be used at speed and transforms the cockpit into a usable all-weather space.
BUMBLEBEE is just being serviced for the 2024 season and has been owned since new by an experienced yachtsman who has valued the unmatched sea-keeping and attendant performance of the deep-vee Windy hull. She is fitted with air-conditioning, an Onan generator, and has the sensationally smooth Volvo Penta D6/400DPi drivetrain package. With low engine hours, full teak (grey caulking), and stunning Anthracite Niroxx cockpit upholstery, she is rare to the market at this age.
“This isn’t a boat for most people. This is a boat for a select few who don’t want to compromise, who don’t want a holiday home or a waterside apartment or a beach hut or a sun patio or a deckchair. And who don’t confuse cost with value. They’ll pay more and they’ll get less, because this is a boat for the select few who “get it”. And what they get is one of the best finished, most focused and greatest
handling 40ft driving machines on the water.
If you’ve read this review from the beginning you have probably concluded that I like this boat.
But you’d be wrong. I like iPhones, ‘Top Gear’, pub lunches and Nikon camera
equipment.
No, I don’t like the Camira, I love the Camira.
I love the way it looks, the way it handles; I love the quality, the precision, the attention to detail. I love tearing up the water in it at 40 knots; I love the way it slices a ferry wake; I love how it corners on (spray) rails, and I love its effortless long-legged, distance-shrinking performance. But above all I love the way it makes me feel – like a happy dog with its head out of the car window.”
Nick Burnham – Motor Boats Monthly – June 2014.
The 39 is an amazing seaboat. She cruises at 30 knots with ease and tops 37 when required. We’ve been Hamble to Roscoff in 5 hours and then on to Quiberon the next day. We’ve enjoyed fabulous cruising around the Morbihan and took her through the Canal du Midi. From there we took her along the South of France to La Spezia before returning. She’s also spent many enjoyable evenings on the Beaulieu River.
